Chad Henne suffered a leg injury near the end of the second quarter on Saturday and at first glance, it really didn't appear to be too serious. In all honestly, most people at the game didn't even know he was injured when it first happened as you needed a clear vantage point from your seats to see exactly what went down. After going back and reviewing video of when Henne was injured, I can see why it wasn't so obvious. Henne ran around to avoid defenders, but instead of throwing the ball away ran out of bounds and either planted wrong or landed on his leg wrong. I think he ran into someone as well, which could've contributed to the injury, but basically, it wasn't something that looked to be all that serious.
As the details are coming in, the news is not good.
The quarterback might have hurt a knee, might have hurt an ankle, either way Michigan wasn't saying. He left the locker room on crutches, with the leg immobilized, and Michigan coach Lloyd Carr called him very doubtful for Notre Dame.Right now, there aren't any confirmed details regarding how long Henne is out for, but what we do know is that he won't play against Notre Dame. In fact, it could be a while until Henne plays again, and that isn't because he has been benched or anything like that, but simply because it could take a while for him to be at 100% health.
The real question now is if it will be weeks or months until the QB returns. There really isn't any general consensus since the info we've got right now is so little, but I'll just pass along the rumor that is quickly spreading. Again, it is only a rumor right now, and I stress that, but I've heard it from more than a few people at this point.
Currently, the rumor is that Chad Henne could be out for the entire season. That would mean the injury is likely ligament damage (ACL, PCL, or MCL) and could sideline him for a while. I won't even bother going into more of the details since it is only a rumor, but this would be an interesting situation if he is done for the season. The question then would turn to if Henne would come back in 2008. He would be able to apply for a medical redshirt that would grant him a fifth year of eligibility, meaning Henne could come back for the 2008 season. Obviously there are many variables put in play before that would even be discussed, including who the coach is and how well Mallett plays, but it is an interesting thought nonetheless.
Definitely stay tuned to this story. I'll post anything new I hear, but until then, get better, Chad.

Brian Kelly won't leave being a head coach to be an assistant anywhere, not in the NFL, and certainly not at U-M.
