The season's first non-preseason polls are due out tomorrow and the question of just how far Michigan will drop definitely is raised. An upset is one thing, but getting beat by a I-AA team at home is something never even seen before for the 5th ranked team in the nation. Judging by some of the ballots already posted for the BlogPoll, Michigan's chances of cracking the top 25 look very slim. For the national polls, I'm not exactly sure where the Maize and Blue will end up.
In the coaches poll, I'd say that Michigan has a good chance to stay ranked. I say this simply because coaches might understand that upsets happen more than members of the media out there. I could be completely wrong, but we'll see. Getting to the AP Poll, I really think Michigan drops out completely. All you have to do is look at the score and the label of I-AA and most members of the media know exactly where Michigan should be. Again, Appalachian State is a decent team that is better than many I-A schools, but a lot of people in the media can't get past the fact that they are in I-AA.
If I were voting, I probably wouldn't rank Michigan in the top 25 either. There is absolutely no excuse for playing the way they did on Saturday, and the rankings should show that. Does Michigan have more talent than some of the teams that will end up ranked ahead of them? Probably. But factor in the horrific coaching and that does put them behind enough teams to knock them out of the top 25. To earn a spot in the rankings you have to play to deserve one, and so far, we obviously haven't seen the Wolverines do that.

Sean, I agree completely. If I were a voter I would drop Michigan out of the top 10 and wait to see how they play against Oregon. With a strong showing, they would stay ranked, and with a poor showing they're dropped. Therefore, Michigan would be on "Probation" in the polls. We'll see.

The team dropped out of the top 25. The team now sits in #27 spot.
Hey Sean, Mick here, a good buddy told me there is an all CIF(San Diego County)as a soph. last year OL who said that his childhood fave is UofM but we haven't offered yet, but others have. Who should I contact about him. We need all the help we can get right now.
Now as far as the state of our beloved FB team. Sad. What amazes me is that as a lifelong fan from the early 70's, the school that has so much going for it academically and athletically is in this position with the winningiest FB program.
I find it absurd that UofM can be so archaic when making changes. Kids come to UofM for UofM, not Lllllllloyd Carr!!!!! Can you imagine if we had an adept coach, what would we be able to accomplish? Michigan, do the right thing and make a great hire before recruiting season ends for this year. Use whatever class you think you have to have, and hire from outside the program, please! For the love of UofM kind.
I like the idea of someone such as Sarkisian, Gary Peterson from TCU, the Boise St. coach, etc. Man I wish we had Urban as our coach.
Finally, I don't care how well we might end up doing this year, change the damn coach, period!!!
If you're on facebook I started a support group. It's name is - Michigan lost to Appalachian State and I need a support group. It's really helping me through these tough times.
