Michigan Drops Out of Both Polls

It isn't shocking, but it is very unusual to see that Michigan is no longer a top 25 team in both the AP and USA Today Polls. The rankings came out yesterday to reflect the first week of play and show that Michigan's loss to Appalachian State caused most voters to take them out of the rankings completely. In the USA Today Coaches Poll, Michigan has fallen to 27th. The Wolverines come in at 33rd in the AP Poll.

Never before has a team taken such a big hit in the polls. After beginning the season as the 5th ranked team in the country, Michigan is now starting over completely by having to work their way back into the top 25.

I would say the spots Michigan is ranked are very well deserving. After playing so bad and getting beat by a I-AA school, this team shouldn't be ranked at all. Not until the Wolverines prove themselves would I consider them a top 25 team, so this weekend's game with Oregon will give them that chance.

With the loss, Michigan's hasn't fallen out of every poll, but instead joins another kind. ESPN.com's "Bottom 10," which ranks the 10 worst teams each week, has included Michigan at #5. Just as with the other polls, that is also well-deserving.
