Lost in the day of upsets and near-upsets was the commitment of Detroit Country Day linebacker Kenny Demens. That was because Demens announced his decision in the middle of Saturday when college football was actually being played. Regardless, the news was all good for Michigan as Demens announced that he will be playing his college ball there.
Kenny Demens had been pondering how to let everyone know which college he planned to go to. He wanted to be different, but he didn’t want to disrespect the coaches from the other schools. Earlier this week he came up with the perfect solution. The article continues to go on and say that Demens actually had his mind made up the day after Michigan beat Notre Dame.
“I’m going to thank Mark Dantonio from Michigan State, coach Bill Callihan [sic] from Nebraska, and last but not least, coach Lloyd Carr from Michigan because that’s where I’m going,” Demens told GoBlueWolverine earlier this week. “I’m going to unzip my jacket so people can see my Michigan shirt, then I’m going to pull a Michigan hat out of my back pocket to put it on.”.
“I came to my decision two Sunday’s ago,” he said. “I was in church and my pastor was preaching a sermon, and the topic was about staying home. When he said those words I looked over at my grandma and I got chill bumps. She said, ‘see Kenny, stay home.’ I’m a believer. I come from a religious family. I had this gut feeling that triggered me to choose one college over all of them. That was the feeling I got at that moment. When I got home I looked at my mom with a real serious look on my face and said, ‘ma, Michigan.’ Then she jumped up and down hollering! I was like, ‘yeah…ma, it’s cool, it’s cool.’ She was crazy happy!”Demens is a big addition for two reasons. The first is simple: he is a good player that will come in at the linebacker position and will hopefully make an impact down the road. Plus, Michigan's recruiting of defensive players hasn't really gotten started yet for the Class of '08, so I'm hoping this commit is a sign of things to come. The second main reason why this commit is important is because it's a recruiting battle won over Michigan State. As mentioned in the first quote above, Demens chose Michigan over MSU and Nebraska. Jonas Gray, Demens' teammate, chose Nebraska over MSU and Michigan in the summer, so at least U-M got one of the Country Day players.
Demens is a nice addition to the Class of '08. Welcome to Ann Arbor, Kenny.

Well I guess as Michigan fans we should be thankful that the preacher didn't preach from the book of Genesis 12:1 which says, "Now the LORD had said unto "Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee."
Know what I'm saying?
