- The Michigan hockey team opened the season with an upset win over #2 Boston College. Michigan won 4-3 in overtime after BC came back in the third period to tie the game up. A day later, the Wolverines lost 4-3 to #6 Minnesota, but still put up a great fight on the first weekend of the season.
- With practice fully underway now for the basketball team, John Beilein is getting back to the basics. Beilein has the players going through a list of goals to that would've been impossible for most last season, but in the relatively short time he has been in Ann Arbor to actually coach, already you can notice a difference.
One of the things I love about Beilein already is that he does actually coach and has his players practicing all the time. Back at West Virginia, he actually had them practicing too much due to some confusion during the Thanksgiving holiday last year. The only punishment WVU will receive is one less day of practice since it seems to be an honest mistake. If a penalty existed for not enough practice, I have a feeling Michigan's previous coach would've been punished, although losing your job because of it is a form of punishment I guess.
Speaking of John Beilein, he was at the Michigan-Purdue game on Saturday just hanging out on the sidelines. It's nice to see him out there in the public eye. - Sam McGuffie is continuing his domination of opponents since returning from an injury. The Michigan commitment, who now has a fifth star on Scout.com, had 4 touchdowns and 261 yards en route to a 28-21 overtime win for his team. Don't forget that this Thursday you'll get a chance to watch McGuffie play on national television. His team will be on ESPN2 at 8:00 p.m. ET, and it'll give us a chance to see what we can look forward to next year.
- If you saw the Purdue game, you probably noticed a sign in the student section that was advertising a website for Mike Hart called Hart4Heisman.com. Hart has been gaining a lot of ground in the Heisman race recently, and depending on the severity of his injury, he might have a legitimate shot if Michigan could win out.
- Jalen Rose put up a billboard on 7 mile in Detroit showing the five jerseys that represented the members of the Fab Five. Although there really is no official record of them existing at Michigan due to the whole Ed Martin scandal, Jalen is doing his best to keep their legacy alive as their 15th anniversary is upon us. Here is what the billboard looks like (via the Free Press):

- Nebraska athletic director Steve Pederson was fired yesterday as the football team's struggles continue. Bill Callahan will surely be on his way out sometime soon, meaning NU is going to be in the market for a new coach.
- An online auction benefiting the Bernard "Pat" Maloy Scholarship is up and running and features a ton of sports related items. If you're looking for autographed jerseys, pictures, or footballs, definitely check it out as there are a ton of items up for bid.
