Friday Quick Hits: Ohio State Eve Edition

  • Getting this out of the way quickly, Michigan got blown out in basketball last night. Georgetown won 74-52 and controlled the game from the very start. Michigan will have to shake this loss off as they head to Alaska for the Great Alaska Shootout. U-M's first game is on Wednesday against Butler at 11:30 p.m. ET. It'll be on ESPN2, so this gives anyone with Comcast their first chance to watch the Wolverines, even if it is such a late start.
  • Yahoo! Sports' Dan Wetzel wrote a great article about the possibility of Lloyd Carr retiring next week. He brings up the point that if Carr does indeed retire from some time after the Ohio State game to before the bowl game, then he drastically hurts Les Miles' chances of getting the job. Michigan will not want to have their head coaching position's future go uncertain for an extended period of time, so most believe that as soon as Carr announces that he will retire, then the search for a new coach will begin. Carr obviously will coach the bowl game, but the search likely would still take place before that. Considering Les Miles will be coaching his team for the chance to play for a national title for the next few weeks, he won't be able to interview for the job as I don't believe he would do that to his team. Regardless of what happens, the next few weeks will be interesting for sure.
  • Mitch Albom on Mike Hart.
  • Charles Woodson and Jim Harbaugh talk about the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry with the Big Ten Network.
  • Since Michigan Stadium will soon be under construction due to renovations, the Ann Arbor News took a tour of the stadium, which can be seen here. Also in regards to the renovation, Michigan has until Monday to submit a plan that addresses wheelchair accessibility in the stadium.
  • A Michigan Daily writer wants everyone to wear Maize to the game tomorrow.
  • A “Go Blue, Beat OSU” pep rally is being held at the Diag later today at 6:30 p.m. ET.

LSU has a long road to the NC game... The big question with Miles is if UM is willing to loosen their wallet strings.

UM should take a look at NE's OC. Their offense has not dropped off one bit since Front Butt left for ND. (Just look at how their offense is performing this year, it is arguably the best in NFL history.) Perhaps Brady can convince him to go to UM??? Since he is young, he would go for pretty cheap, which would be a plus for your AD, although McDaniels does not fit the profile of a coach Martin would hire. McDaniels would be a much better choice than DeBoard IMO.

At least teh bball team did not fold in the 2nd half. Beilien's rebuilding job will take some time and not quitting is a start. Baby steps...
