On the eve of the Michigan basketball season, we're already receiving bad news. Jerret Smith, the team's starting point guard, will be suspended for one game after violating a rule in regards to class attendance.
As Nathan Fenno reports, Smith hurt his ankle during practice today, meaning that the suspension might have to wait until he is actually healthy enough to play. If he is healthy enough to play tomorrow, then that is when the suspension will be served, otherwise, he could just be suspended for a game that he couldn't play in anyways. John Beilein obviously isn't going to have any of that, but I do think the suspension will be served against Radford tomorrow night after reading the official release from MGoBlue.com.
I would expect Kelvin Grady to step in as the starter at point guard to fill the void created by this suspension. Losing Smith is a definite blow as he has so much experience that is needed with a young team, but hopefully we'll see him back on the floor for Michigan's next game, this Sunday at home against Brown.

Athletes that conducts themselves like this in any of the sports, basketball, football, or what have you are showing that they have CRAP for brains. They need to get it together! They are letting their school, teammates, families and themselves down. Playing for Michigan is a privilege.
