It's not like the polls mean too much to Michigan since a Big Ten title is what they're playing for, but the Wolverines did move up to 12th in the latest BCS rankings. The only way this could mean anything is if Michigan wanted an at-large bid if they win against Wisconsin but lose to Ohio State. If that is the case, then I don't see any way that U-M makes it into the BCS, and nor should they. Many feel that the Rose Bowl would rather put Michigan in the game to get the traditional Big Ten team in it, but I really don't see that happening. In fact, I bet the Rose Bowl would rather see some new teams as more fans would likely make the trip to Pasadena if the team was making its first appearance in the Granddaddy of Them All compared to someone like Michigan, who would be heading west for the 4th time in 5 years if they ended up in the Rose Bowl again this season.
Anyways, here are the BCS, AP, and USA Today rankings side-by-side for comparison's sake.

It would seem to me that if Michigan wins the Big Ten title they should by right go to the Rose Bowl. Winning the Big Ten title should make them eligible for a BCS bid because the BT conference champion is considered a major power.
If Michigan beats OSU or plays a very strong game against them while beating Wisconsin it should make a case for loosing to ASU as being more of an aberration. Or at the very least be viewed as not being the same team that started the year.
The argument would likely be against a potential UM vs. Oregon rematch in the Rose Bowl. However, if OSU remains No.#1, and Michigan becomes the potential Big Ten alternate representative for the bowl, that is the likely dilemma.
Michigan however, is a better draw than Wisconsin for any bowl committee, because when it comes to bowl selections, it's all about money.
As we all know this picture will clear itself up in the next few weeks.
